SHEAFFER LIFETIME OVERSIZED BALANCE PEN/PENCIL, BLACK & PEARL , LF, GFT, c1928

Description

Here's a WHITE DOT SHEAFFER LIFETIME oversized balance pen and pencil set in PEARL & BLACK  and from about 1928. This is the early variant of the balance pen where the clip runs all the way to the cap ring. This excellent pen is 5-3/4" long and has a barrel diameter of .524" while the pencil is about 1/16" longer than the pen. The pen is a lever filler which I had resacked many years ago and it readily takes up ink. It may need a slight adjustment as when the lever is moved to the retracted position there is a slight click as if the j-bar was hanging up a little. It doesn't seem to affect the ink uptake, but probably should be corrected. The pencil operates perfectly and uses .046" lead. The new/old stock eraser is a little hardened, but quite usable and there is lots of extra lead in the magazine.  The pencil has a little dented area at the very top tip of the cap. It looked like the original owner may have tapped it which thinking and writing. ..no harm, but a visible slant on one side. Otherwise the set is in great shape with good trim  trim and no other plastic flaws. Good strong barrel imprints are shown in photos 8 & 9.  The nib is a large 14kt SHEAFFER LIFETIME fine width. It is straight, very firm and with good iridium.  A very fine old set. The old  hard black box is, for its age, in very nice condition, inside and out.
